FAQ

Why choose custom millwork over prefabricated options?

Custom millwork allows for personalized designs that match your unique style and space requirements. It offers the flexibility to create one-of-a-kind, high-quality pieces that may not be available in prefabricated options.

Additionally, local cabinet makers are often part of the community and have a vested interest in delivering excellent service. They are familiar with local design trends, building codes, and can provide a more personalized and attentive customer experience.

While custom cabinets from a local maker generally have a higher upfront cost than prefabricated options, they often provide better long-term value due to their durability, quality, and unique design features.

Ultimately, the choice between a local cabinet maker and a prefabricated option depends on your priorities, budget, and the specific requirements of your project. If customization, craftsmanship, excellent customer service and accountability are important to you, a local cabinet maker may be the ideal choice.

How can I manage my budget during the design process?

Establish a budget that aligns with your financial comfort zone. Be transparent about your expectations, and we will work together to create a design that not only meets your aesthetic desires but also stays within the parameters of your budget. Realistic budgeting is a foundation for a successful project.

It is also important to identify and communicate your priorities early in the project. Determine which aspects of the design are non-negotiable and where flexibility exists. This will help us allocate resources more effectively, focusing on the elements that matter most to you.

What is the lead time for custom millwork?

The design process usually takes 1-4 months depending on the size of your project. Once your purchase agreement is signed, we book your fixed installation date in our calendar. The date will depend on current availability, but our minimum lead time is 6-8 weeks.

Do you offer installation services?

Yes, we usually prefer to install our products. However, if your contractor would like to install the millwork, we can deliver the product to site or have them pick it up at our shop so they can install it themselves.

What maintenance is required for custom millwork?

The required maintenance depends on the finish chosen. Please refer to our Care and Maintenance Guide available in the Resources tab for more information.

Do you provide 3D renderings?

Yes, we do! Fully coloured renderings are included in every millwork package.

What materials and finishes do you offer?

We offer a diverse range of high-quality materials tailored to suit your unique design preferences and project requirements. Our selection includes various wood species, painted finishes, laminates, thermoplastics and melamines. A virtually infinite variety of paint colours and wood stains are available, allowing for extensive customization to achieve the desired aesthetic for your millwork project.

Can you match existing millwork?

The answer will vary depending on the existing finish. If your existing millwork has a laminate, melamine, or thermoplastic finish, we are limited to the current availability of materials.

For painted and wood finishes, it is possible, however we cannot guarantee an exact match.

When matching existing cabinetry, considerations such as sun exposure, wear and tear, and the age of the existing cabinetry become important factors in achieving a cohesive and seamless integration.

We recommend maintaining a deliberate separation between new and old cabinetry to avoid mismatches. In cases where a clear delineation is desirable, we may introduce transitional design features. This could include architectural elements or decorative accents that serve as a bridge between the old and new, creating a cohesive transition without direct physical contact.
